The Colombian regime of free competition has gained importance in recent years due to the issuance of Law 1340 of 2009, which among other things established the single free competition authority headed by the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce, the program of benefits for collaboration, deepened the system of competition law, increased fines and the term of expiration of the authority’s sanctioning power for non-compliance with competition rules and modernized the control of business concentrations. As a consequence of these important structural changes, authority has increased its presence with investigations in all of the sectors of the economy and by inspecting and revising major corporate concentration operations.
